We recognize the importance of sustainable and responsible sourcing of our seafood products in addition to our obligation to minimize our overall impact on the environment. As a result, we have implemented the following practices to ensure that we are doing our part:
- All fish provided by Mike Stahl Seafood Co. are responsibly harvested in accordance with all guidelines as set forth by the FDA and US Department of Fish & Wildlife as well as any local authorities and regulations.
- The seafood is caught using modern techniques and equipment that minimize any impact on the ecosystem and decrease bycatch. Typical methods include purse seines, surface skimmers, trawls, hook-and-line and turtle-excluding devices as needed. Wild products harvested via dredging and gill-netting are not purchased nor sold by Mike Stahl Seafood Co.
- All products are acquired from facilities who process seafood safety in accordance HACCP and maintain current data logs.
- Vendors are strongly encouraged to use recycled materials when available and preference is given to those who do. Packaging materials are recyclable in almost all cases.
- Mike Stahl Seafood Co. does not offer seafood that is listed as avoid, not recommended, or any other sort of derogatory label by the major fishery assessment programs.
- Customers are provided with current data such as traceability information, harvest dates, harvest methods, harvest locations, lot codes and fishery assessment rating by request at time of purchase.
- Our staff is highly educated on current ecological issues and concerns. Additionally, we have been active participants in many industry conferences, lectures and presentations at both the academic, industry and the consumer levels. We will continue this moving forward in order to offer our customers the best and most accurate information so that they can make knowledgeable decisions.
